The Achmea Foundation is an independent entity established by Achmea in 2006.

Based on its social commitment, the Achmea Foundation wants to contribute to improving the socio-economic position of vulnerable people. We do this both in the Netherlands and abroad, with a focus on Africa. The character of the Foundation is closely linked to that of Achmea.

In 2021, the Board of the Achmea Foundation adopted the Strategy and Work Plan for the Achmea Foundation for the period 2021-2025.

As the Achmea Foundation, we, like Achmea, want to contribute to a healthy, safe and future-proof society. We want to be recognised and acknowledged as a Foundation that creates value for society. We give Achmea employees the opportunity to develop their talents and skills by participating in activities carried out by the Achmea Foundation and its partners. In this way, the Achmea Foundation actively contributes to Achmea’s strategy. And as a result, Achmea employees feel connected to the Achmea Foundation and contribute to realising our ambition.

Mid-term evaluation of current Achmea Foundation strategy 2021-2025.

In recent years, the Achmea Foundation has worked hard to achieve the goals set out in the strategy and work plan. As part of this, the coordination and cooperation with Achmea was strengthened in several areas. In 2022, the Board of the Achmea Foundation decided to reassess its strategy mid-term for 3 reasons:

1. Connection with Achmea’s purpose: In late 2021, a new purpose was established for Achmea. Based on the vision Sustainable Living. Together, Achmea strives for an inclusive society in which everyone participates. Achmea will solve societal challenges in four domains: Bringing healthcare closer, Smart mobility, Carefree living & working and Income for today and tomorrow. This tightening offers ample opportunities to achieve greater impact through smart combinations.
2. Halfway through current strategic period: Issues have emerged over the past two years, where the Achmea Foundation’s strategy and work plan may need sharpening.
3. Start of a new director, so that she can incorporate her progressive insights into the strategy plan.

The strategy reassessment revealed that the Achmea Foundation’s four programmes could align even more effectively with Achmea’s purpose.

1. Impact Fund: the focus has been changed to “Bringing health closer” and “Income for today and tomorrow” (for example, through agriculture projects or financial inclusion). In this way, the Achmea Foundation aligns with Achmea’s purpose and increases recognisability. This also reinforces Achmea’s strategy.
2. Expert Volunteer Assignments: assignments are more closely aligned with the objective of the Impact Fund and ImpactPlus. Preferably, a larger portion of the assignments also take place with the cooperation partners in the Impact Fund (in Africa or the Netherlands) and ImpactPlus (in the Netherlands). This will enable us to generate an even greater impact.
3. ImpactPlus: For ImpactPlus, there has been a broadening of “focus on Care” to Achmea’s four domains combined with focus on vulnerable people in the Netherlands. In this way, we better align with Achmea’s purpose. This also reinforces Achmea’s strategy.
4. Achmea Voor Elkaar: the theme has become broader. We now focus on “Sustainable Living. Together.” This enables broader deployment and better aligns with Achmea’s purpose. This also reinforces Achmea’s strategy.
