In this annual report, we look back at the year 2023. The Achmea Foundation is building a world in which everyone lives together sustainably. We provide assistance to people in the Netherlands and Sub-Saharan Africa who are experiencing hardship, with the aim of helping them to improve their living circumstances and prospects. In that way, we make a sustainable impact on their socioeconomic situation.

In early 2023, Turkey and Syria were hit by a severe earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 on the Richter scale. The earthquake claimed an untold numbers of casualties. Achmea has close ties with Turkey and the colleagues there, both at subsidiary Eureko Sigorta and the Turkish branch of Eurocross Assistance Company. Within 24 hours, the Achmea Foundation had launched a crowdfunding initiative together with Achmea. A great example of the “The Sum of Us".

In difficult times, we’re there for each other. This was evident when looking at all the heartwarming responses to the coverage of Turkey and Syria. Despite all the sadness, it was very special to see how many lovely responses had been received and the massive response given to donate to the victims of this terrible disaster. We realise that the grief for the victims in Turkey and Syria is far from over.

We are strongly committed to improving living conditions and ensuring a brighter future for people in the Netherlands and in Sub-Saharan countries, who are undergoing hardship. We do this based on the vision of our parent company Achmea, with our own identity. Together, we strive for Sustainable Living. Together: an inclusive society in which everyone participates and lives happily and healthily with and alongside each other. We put this into practice with four impactful programmes: Impact Fund, Expert Volunteer Assignments, ImpactPlus and Achmea Voor Elkaar. Many Achmea colleagues contribute ideas for and participate in projects of, for and by the Achmea Foundation. Together, we can make the world a little nicer, a little fairer. In this annual report, we would like to tell you how we did this last year.

The Achmea Foundation office has done a tremendous amount of work. The Achmea Foundation Board was also once again hugely involved in all developments and activities. The impactful work of the Achmea Foundation is made possible by the commitment of many enthusiastic Achmea colleagues, providing support from various departments. Their commitment is particularly important for the success of the Achmea Foundation. There is a great deal of momentum, movement and energy in the Achmea Foundation. It is unbelievable how much happened last year and how many activities took place. One of the great successes of 2023 is that the Achmea Foundation has increased its connection with the Achmea company.
